it's leap year this year and you know what that means? we have 29 days in the month of february. this only happens once every four years. so, with this change in the calendar, let's throw a change into one of our CARD challenges.
i was so inspired by our 'Nook gallery the last few days. the members here are beyond talented and share their abundant ideas and inspiration. there are so many gorgeous layouts and that is where the CARD challenge/LAYOUT challenge for this leap year came to life.
there is so much for card makers to be inspired by in our layout gallery. design, palette, embellishment placement, title, subject, white space, blocking, layering, you name it.
the challenge: create a card or layout inspired by a layout/card you find in the 'Nook gallery. when posting your card/layout, please also post the layout/card that inspired you and what, specifically, you were inspired by.
(you DO NOT have to use a nook kit with this challenge, but we'd sure love to see your inspiration using it ;) )
PRIZE?
yep, and it's a goodie. an AMERICAN CRAFTS DEAR LIZZY NEAPOLITAN card kit from danni
deadline: tuesday march 6, 2012 11:59 pm PST
cards by danni created using the gorgeous MARCH kit
don't wait to get yours. there's such an amazing deal right now for new subscribers, like a free MARCH GRAB BAG
here is the layout by christin {UmeNorskan} that inspired danni's cards
here's what danni had to say:
i love christin's work. you can't scroll the gallery and NOT recognize one of her gorgeous layouts. regardless of the kit, she creates layouts with lots of layers and beautiful surprise details. i chose to use one of her layouts and challenge myself to create layers and some surprising details on a couple of cards. this kit was perfect and i had so much fun playing with all the layers. thank you christin for sharing your beautiful work with all of us, you are incredibly talented.
birthday wishes card
i started my card by thinking of one layer at a time and then layering those elements, from pp to chipboard butterflies to rubs
first layer was to create a background circle layer
layering of the gorgeous butterfly (yes i stitched it, manually, carefully)
and my surprise detail?
creating the sentiment stamping in coordinating ink and of course layering that fun sentiment, as christin would ;)
and i had so much fun with the first, i created a second
hello card by danni
i began the card, again, with the other half of my circle layer
i then added layer upon layer, lots of pp strips, lace trim, a banner strip (you'll find these a lot in christin's work) and heart doily
i continued to add layers, tying the gorgeous twine from the GRAB BAG and gorgeous buttons to the butterflies
and my surprise detail?
i cut a small decorative edge in the middle of the pp and then backed it with another pretty pp from the kit
we can't wait to see who inspires you and your gorgeous CARDS or LAYOUTS.
happy creating♥
