April member sketch challenge!!

Hi everyone!
Katarina here and I've got our member inspiration challenge; where we choose a
layout by one of our fabulous members and create a sketch based off of it.

This month I chose this beautiful LO by taraleclaire
I love the beautiful clean style in this page, and I love the display of this page.

This months guest sharing her beautiful inspiration with us all is the wonderful Sarah Slade aka Pinkalishious at our messageboard. The winner of last months challenge.
Sarah has been scrapping for 8yrs and her favourite things to scrap about is her family and all of their adventures together. Her favourite embellishments are stickles and rhinestones. She also loves to use her cricut and punches.
Sarahs go to colours are soft pastel colours, and the combos pink/silver and blue /silver.

Thank you Sarah for sharing your beautiful work with us!

This is the challenge we have for you: make a creation inspired by this sketch! Upload your LO to the messageboard  no later than Sunday May 12th and you just might be the one we pick for our next Member Inspiration guest designer. You don’t need to use a Nook kit to participate and you can choose to make a card or a layout.

And here is DT member Hilde´s take on the challenge:

card inspiration and lift from danni

i chose to lift deanna's gorgeous card

i stayed true to the overall design of the card because it's so striking. i created my own embellie, using the APRIL GRAB BAG, and then after deciding on the banner strips, decided to use a piece of pp from the MARCH kit, like deanna did, to bounce the color from the strips.

and i loved it so that i created another card using the same card as inspiration

card inspiration and lift from hilde

I chose to lift this super cute card by Danni

and here's what hilde had to say:

My starting point was the two background squares and the butterlies spread out. As I don't have any big butterfly dies or punch (can you imagine!?!), I shose to swap the butterflies with flowers and buttons.

April Tecnique Class - Folded Mini Album

Hi girls. Today I’m going to show you how to fold and make a small mini album, just 3x6” big.

I took my family for a mini cruise during Easter break and we took a lot of snap shot photos: None of them are really worth standing on their own on a single page, but by using them in a mini, I can tell the whole story. This mini album could easily take 8-12 2 ½x4” photos, have plenty of room for journaling, and you can easily adjust the number of photos and room for journaling. Here are the supplies I used:

You also need some twine or ribbon.

Here we go: Take to pieces of 6x12” patterned paper and fold and cut as shown (they do not be from the same sheet of paper).

Now take the piece to the left in the photo and fold it as shown below to make a tag card

(instruction #1 referrers to the bottom right part, not to fold it straight upwards)

 Set aside.

Now cut pieces of patterned paper and decorate the inside of the original folded piece #2. The striped piece to the very left is stuck under the blue piece, and scored so it can be folded. Also prepare three pieces for tags to fit into the tag card

Take your tag card and fix it as shown in the piece you just decorated. I used ordinary scotch and covered the tape with border stickers from the kit. You can see how the extra flip you made in the last step folds too.

Now here comes the fun part: Glue down you photos, write and embellish.

In order to make the album close properly, I recommend you keep your “pages” as flat as possible. There is room to decorate the back of the album too; it will not show when closed. I have put tickets and some more journaling there in my album. Fold the album, decorate the front and don’t forget to attach some twine or ribbon so you can keep your mini closed.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Happy mini making!

PS If you make a mini showing this technique, don’t forget to link back to this forum thread so we can leave you some love!

april one page layout class

Hi everyone, I'm here with a one page layout class today and I've used the gorgeous Crate Paper Story Teller line in this month's kit along with a few other products which I've listed a bit further on....

here are the kit items I've used to create the layout..including tags, paper strips/scraps and chipboard frame..

I've used the 'generations' paper for the background and cut out two pieces/tags each from the 'tag cuts' and 'accent cuts' papers.. Ideally one of the tags should have a picture and you'll see why below..

other materials used:
  • buttons
  • mist/paint/spray ink (I used Studio Calico 'pony' mister huey)
  • stencil/template (I used Crafter's Workshop 'harlequin')
  • stamp (woodgrain, text or other)
  • gesso
  • ink
  • thread
So to start off I've altered the background a bit using the spray ink and template.. then cut a section of the 'notes' piece just under the woodgrain curved piece so that it sits on top of the photo..then I've stuck down the tags as shown below..

'

next, I've slipped in the paper strips and photo.. and added the altered chipboard frame and a few buttons..

for the chipboard frame, I've first given it a coat of gesso and then inked it with some distress stain ink.. once dry, I've stamped onto it using a Unity Stamp Co woodgrain stamp in a darker brown ink.. if you don't have a woodgrain stamp, a script/text would also work well..

to finish the layout, I've added in some a title, 'here' sticker and hand journaling..

here's the finished layout..

I hope you feel like creating something using tags and an altered chipboard frame..it's a great way to make a little feature on your layout and along with the buttons add some texture..

thanks so much for stopping by!
