Feb. Altered Item Class

Hi everyone!  Welcome to my Feb. class where I will show you how to make a cute wooden spool photo holder!  This can be a great home decor item or a thoughtful gift.  You will need a wooden spool.  I bought mine at my local craft store, but you could easily use a larger one you might already have.  My spool measures 1 1/2" X 2 1/8".

I first coverd the bulk of my spool with patterned paper. Any combination works...I used a thick piece that was 4. 5" long and then a bottom, thin strip sized the same. Line up the seams. Use any adhesive on the back of the paper. When done, cover all of the paper with Mod Podge to make it last long and give it a sheen.

Use a piece of rickrack to add some detail.

Jazz up the top and give the flags and wire a solid base! Put one of the October Afternoon flower punch- outs on the top. Before placing the center button, punch a few small holes in the center of the flower...you will be sticking your flap and wire holder into this area. Put a button in the middle.

Now for the flag and wire holder. To give them a stable base, I rolled up a piece of paper and inserted it into the bottom hole of the spool. I used a pencil to push it...when you insert the flag and wire, it has something to stick into.  I cut my wire star from an existing photo holder I wasn't using...call it an upcycle.  You can always make one!  The flags were add-ons this month.

Decorate the front.  I used a wooden button and twine from the kit!

Insert your photo and you are done!

So cool! I am currently working on DIY projects in our apartments in dallas texas. These designs can help me attract more customers in my sew shop.
